A world in turmoil. A new religion. A struggling community. Can a pagan woman protect her family without falling prey to both Christians and power-hungry Fae?
Ireland, 470. In an ancient world torn between old traditions and new beliefs, a pagan woman finds herself caught in a perilous struggle to protect her family from the clutches of both zealous Christians and power-hungry Fae. Clíodhna mourns the presumed loss of her husband, and as the months pass with no sign of his return, she clings to her ancestral customs. She distrusts the encroaching dominance of the burgeoning Christian faith, which threatens to erode the connection to the Faerie realm that is intrinsic to her people's existence.
Determined to preserve the ancient gods and defy those who seek to diminish their power, Clíodhna embarks on a fierce crusade against the zealous clergy who target her beliefs. As tensions escalate and her village turns against her, branding her a pagan devil, Clíodhna is left with no choice but to flee into the misty woods, where the spirits of the land dwell.
In the heart of Faerie, Clíodhna must navigate a treacherous path as she grapples with her own heritage and the encroaching threats from her rivals. Will she find the strength to defy her enemies and carve a path for herself and her family, or will she become a forgotten relic in a world consumed by the allure of a foreign faith?

from 890 reviewsI really enjoyed this intro to the Skye O'Shea Series. I found Skye interesting and relatable having started over myself after divorce without an inheritance to whisk me away. I'm excitedto see what hernew beginning brings.

Delightful story!

I really enjoyed this first in the Skye O’Shea series. I liked that the storyline was different and lots of Irish lore. I look forward to the next book in the series.

I ventured Into a new realm of Irish historical fiction, and was not disappointed. Book 1 in a series of 5 will keep me cozy for a few days. Looking forward to seeing what else the author has in store for me.

What an engaging and entertaining book! Plenty of twists and turns and wonderfully crafted red herrings! You never know whether your instinct as to who the killer could be is right or not, and juuuust when you think you’ve got it, there ar little seeds of doubt. LOVE IT. Great characters, thrilling and exciting series of events. Highly recommend if you like murder mysteries, Ireland, and more than a wee bit it the woogety woo!

This one really gets into the rituals of the fae, history of her Gran's life and who she was. People arrive that cause a whole of trouble and a death.

A fun read. I like the Ireland location and the references to old Irish folk lore. Characters interesting, more fleshed out than in many books. I'm moving on to the next one.

Not what I expected. The book is fresh with mystery and Irish folk lore. One I started reading it. I didn't want to stop until the end.

I received this book by the author with no compensation or conditions to write a review. I found this storyline to be quite interesting & plan to read more books in this series. I enjoy the paranormal genre & this prequel checked the boxes for me. If you enjoy this genre, I suggest you give it a try.

Read the prequel a few days ago and was hooked. Troubles between exes lead Skye into a world in Ireland she doesn't yet understand. Leaving problems behind in the states, she sets off for Ireland and an unexpected inheritance from her grandmother.Problems arise as son as Skye sets foot in Irish soil. Mysterious death, suspicions about Skye's family and unexpected behavior from the people.Add to that mystical happenings, noises in the night, A talking cat, and many other beings from Irish folklore make for an entertaining read. Ready for the next.

Excellent book. The characters where outstanding! Keep you guessing to the end.can't wait to continue the story! Gram is my favorite character.

I am enjoying the Irish story setting. Hope the series continues past book three.

This is a nice read! Interesting and imagination capturing. Great to read a fantasy that's not full of angst but mature life issues.

Really good read. Not too predictable, has enough twists to maintain interest. The kind of.escape.you want tomread.straight thru, cover to cover

A new to me author. I enjoyed reading this book the storyline was intriguing and the characters were captivating . Looking forward to reading more from this author
This is the exciting backstory of the Druid’s Brooch series. I have been waiting for this reveal forever!Clíodhna has been caring for her children and the farm alone ever since her husband disappeared. Whether he left or was taken is still unknown but life is harder without him. When the priests of the new religion offer to teach her older children and care for her baby it is a blessing but their beliefs do not align with the customs of her people. She finds herself caught between this new Christianity and the Fae she knows and believes in.There is danger, magic, intrigue, and romance. What more can you want? I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary.
Two different hopeful love interests by 14% I was hooked! The battle between her and the Abbot sucks you right it; you keep wanting to know what he’ll do next! Pregnant with the Faes son and her lost husband returns oh man I’m dying to see how this plays out! So sad to see her give away her children in hopes they’ll be safe. Ends in a cliffhanger so BEWARE!
Cliodhna is a pagan woman in ancient Ireland. Her story shapes the entire Druid Brooch series.Interesting twist, to situation this volume at the end of the series (reverse chronology for those who have read the full way through). It has been such a fascinating journey through 9 books (plus novellas). The brooch is the focus, but this seems to be more about the strength of the women in these historical periods. The research is extensive and comes trhough, the worldbuilding complete. So many things come together here, giving further clarity to the actions throughout the series, and the characters shaped by the world around them. You feel so much reading this. About the weaknesses and frailties of the character, but also hope and strength. This (and the series) is a definite read.
I loved the whole series , anything about Ireland I really enjoy ! I read them all and looked for more ! So I will be looking for moreabout the faeries etc ! Born in Ireland I am seeing it from a different side !!!
