When every choice he makes unleashes disaster, can a young man save his sister before he loses everything he loves?

Ireland, 520. In a mystical realm where the veil between mortals and the Otherworld is thin, a young hero must navigate a treacherous journey to reclaim what he holds most dear. Conall, a courageous nineteen-year-old with a heart of gold, would defy fate itself to protect his beloved little sister. When he witnesses his wicked stepfather assaulting her, he unleashes a hidden power to enable their escape.

But their flight into the untamed wilderness brings them face to face with a harsh reality. Hunger gnaws at their bellies, and despair threatens to consume their souls. Desperate and at the edge of his endurance, Conall turns to the fae of the forest, hoping they will answer his plea for salvation. He soon realizes that the price of their aid may be more treacherous than he ever imagined.

Though well aware of the fae's capricious nature, Conall risks accepting shelter from a mystical creature, driven by his unwavering determination to heal his sister. Little does he know that his decision will anger the Faerie Queen herself, who exacts a devastating price—his sister's sight.

Now, Conall embarks on a perilous quest to undo this wicked curse. As he ventures deeper into the enchanted lands, confronting ancient beings and unraveling the secrets of the Otherworld, he grapples with his own inner demons. Will he find the strength to break the chains of destiny and reclaim his sister's sight, or will he be consumed by the darkness that threatens to devour his soul?

Danger in two worlds!

To protect his young sister, Conall, and Lainn flee their home for safety or death in the wilderness. The broach must be kept hidden but he will not hesitate to call on its magic if needed. Who will help them? Who will seek to destroy them? Druids, priests, friends, foes, fae…can any be trusted? Their journey spans worlds with treachery and danger in both.Christy Nicholas has delivered another well-written book in this spell-binding series. Her writing brings the characters to life. I received an advance copy but my review is honest and voluntary.

Conall continues the tradition of the Brooch

Conall Continues the Tradition of the BroochContinuing the Druid Brooch series, this is the story of Conall and his sister, Lainn. Fatherless (did he die or disappear?), stuck with a stepfather who supports them/their mother, but is just not a good man (and a mother who cannot protect her children).Conall is a complex character, with a strong sense of loyalty to his mother and sister. He tends to subjugate his own preferences and goals to protect them – and is tortured by his decisions and sacrifices. The brooch – and its power – are still core to this. The magic drives so much of the action, even when subtle.Bridges the rich world of ancient Ireland, as well as the complex world of the Fae. Delves into the environment and the influence of the faeries in the human world.

An entertaining read

I thought that this book was interesting and entertaining. Nicholas is a good storyteller. I loved the history, well, if I wouldn’t, then I wouldn’t choose this book. I loved the setting, and I loved most characters. However, I didn’t like everything that happened. Still, I recommend this well-written book; it’s a good read!

She of Saints

A brother's vow to protect his sister appears to be constantly plagued with not so good decisions. He tends to make further vows only to break them too.

I would like to give this story 10 stars

In my assessment, though I liked them all, this is the best book in the Brooch story. The author pulled me so much in that I forgot the time. This is the story of Connall (the boy with the power of the brooch) and his sister Lainn (who is being trained by the Druids) as they escape from the horrors of home. They find themselves in the Fae world and face many adventures and challenges. The characters from Ammatan to Adhna all add to the flavor of the story. The book is rich in entertainment, rich in storytelling and rich in depth. Absolutely looking forward to the rest of the story.
