Quite the adventure weaved well into intolerable historical events

A young woman’s quest to seek her family’s past and relatives at a time when traveling had hardships and Ireland was in perilous straights. The fantasy added more elements to the story and fit well with the Irish culture. Well written and very enjoyable

A little bit of everything

Some mystery, some magic, some romance, some intrigue. Quite the mix that held my interest. Surprises as the pages turned. Ended too abruptly. It would have been nice to hear more of the passing years.

Legacy of Hunger: An Irish Historical Fantasy (Druid's Brooch #1), my fourth read from author Christy Nicholas. I first heard of this author when I received an email from Green Dragon Press and read An Immigrant's Tale: A Druid's Brooch Prequel Short Story 0.5 (Druid's Brooch Series). This is another well-written work with a well-developed primary character, a very good read. “I received a Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading Unraveling Brigid's Veil: A Historical Time Travel Adventure (Toronto Time Agents #3) when it's released. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Storyline is pretty good, but a very dry read.

I'm only about half way through the book at this time, but this book reads more like a history text book than a fantasy novel. The overall story seems pretty good. The picture painted with the words seems to be technically accurate for the time period, but doesn't draw you in or really make you picture the scenes in your mind. As I said, I am only half way through and it does seem to get a little better the further I read, but I'm not convinced at this point that I will want to read the entire series.

An amazing series, a robust history, and exploration of human nature

Legacy of Hunger is the first book in the Druid’s Brooch series. While the rest of the series takes place solely in Ireland, this is the journey of a 19th century American woman, returning to her family's heritage during the Irish famine.A hallmark of the series is a rich, vivid description of past places, events, and people. Going well beyond the surface issues (poverty, the famine) this book explores the lives of people, their victories but also the challenges, and gives a unique perspective on each character.
