from 890 reviewsI really enjoyed this intro to the Skye O'Shea Series. I found Skye interesting and relatable having started over myself after divorce without an inheritance to whisk me away. I'm excitedto see what hernew beginning brings.

Delightful story!

I really enjoyed this first in the Skye O’Shea series. I liked that the storyline was different and lots of Irish lore. I look forward to the next book in the series.

I ventured Into a new realm of Irish historical fiction, and was not disappointed. Book 1 in a series of 5 will keep me cozy for a few days. Looking forward to seeing what else the author has in store for me.

What an engaging and entertaining book! Plenty of twists and turns and wonderfully crafted red herrings! You never know whether your instinct as to who the killer could be is right or not, and juuuust when you think you’ve got it, there ar little seeds of doubt. LOVE IT. Great characters, thrilling and exciting series of events. Highly recommend if you like murder mysteries, Ireland, and more than a wee bit it the woogety woo!

This one really gets into the rituals of the fae, history of her Gran's life and who she was. People arrive that cause a whole of trouble and a death.

A fun read. I like the Ireland location and the references to old Irish folk lore. Characters interesting, more fleshed out than in many books. I'm moving on to the next one.

Not what I expected. The book is fresh with mystery and Irish folk lore. One I started reading it. I didn't want to stop until the end.

I received this book by the author with no compensation or conditions to write a review. I found this storyline to be quite interesting & plan to read more books in this series. I enjoy the paranormal genre & this prequel checked the boxes for me. If you enjoy this genre, I suggest you give it a try.

Read the prequel a few days ago and was hooked. Troubles between exes lead Skye into a world in Ireland she doesn't yet understand. Leaving problems behind in the states, she sets off for Ireland and an unexpected inheritance from her grandmother.Problems arise as son as Skye sets foot in Irish soil. Mysterious death, suspicions about Skye's family and unexpected behavior from the people.Add to that mystical happenings, noises in the night, A talking cat, and many other beings from Irish folklore make for an entertaining read. Ready for the next.

Excellent book. The characters where outstanding! Keep you guessing to the end.can't wait to continue the story! Gram is my favorite character.

I am enjoying the Irish story setting. Hope the series continues past book three.

This is a nice read! Interesting and imagination capturing. Great to read a fantasy that's not full of angst but mature life issues.

Really good read. Not too predictable, has enough twists to maintain interest. The kind of.escape.you want tomread.straight thru, cover to cover

Misfortune of SongBy Christy Nicholas4 out of 5 StarsWhen I first picked up this book I had no idea it was book 5 in a series it definitely can be read on its own but needless to say I will be going back to read the others. But Misfortune of Song was such an incredibly well written and captivating story. It’s authors like these that truly inspire me.As a huge lover of Fae I loved how they were incorporated in this story and can say this story developed at a quick pace. It will be one of those stories you don’t want to end.I definitely recommend this book and will be going to read the others as well! The heart of this book was so amazing. Can’t wait for more people to get their hands on it!
Orlagh is ferocious but too small to ever be a warrior, although her grandfather is hard-pressed to keep her out of trouble. When she falls for Temuirr the silver-tongued bard, her grandfather is determined to save her from herself and keep her safe. The pursuit of the couple will encompass great distance and danger. If he can only repair the relationship with his granddaughter in time to pass on the family heirloom and the power it will convey. There is love and loss, and plenty of magic. I really enjoy Christy Jackson Nichols's writing style. She brings the scenes to life. received an advance copy but my review is honest and voluntary.
A struggle of a grandfather and granddaughter to find independence of each other and of themselves. The tie that remains is more of the family legacy than of the heart.
Misfortune of Song by Christy NicholasDruid’s Brooch Series #5My rating: 4 out of 5 starsThis book is an excellent addition to the Druid’s Brooch Series. The story was easy to get into and the characters were written nicely. This could be read as a stand alone but the other books in the series are just as great and I would highly recommend them.Almost all of the characters in this book got on my nerves or did things that made me hate them. In saying that, it really made the book all that much more interesting for me. I wanted to read on to see how each person would react to the different situations they were thrown into.Orlagh is a fool, chasing after a love that wasn't even there in the beginning just because of one kiss. Temuirr is a promiscuous man that can’t hold a solid relationship which, leads to his sister Yana always exasperated by the situations he gets himself into. Orlagh finds out that her grandfa is arranging a marriage for her with a man from their village, she denounces her grandfa’s care to live on her own and follow her love for Temuirr. Temuirr is surprised and taken aback, he realizes he is in too deep with this woman and may have to court her for real.Eolande is Orlagh’s best friend, and my favorite character. She always has Orlagh’s back and is a fae that was cast out of her world because she fell in love with a mortal. She follows Oralgh in her quest to track down Temuirr to watch over her and keep her safe. Maelan, Orlagh’s grandfa and Eogan, Maelan’s best friend, go out on a search to find Orlagh and bring her home as well as to her senses regarding the traveling bard, Temuirr. Maelan makes many very terrible decisions regarding his granddaughter in the form of kidnapping her and ruining her relationship with not only Temuirr but him as well.I don't want to give away too much more information, but there is some stuff that goes down towards the end and really makes for a nice ending to the book. I did enjoy this book and can’t wait to look into more books from this series.
Misfortune of Song: Druid's Brooch Series: #5 by Christy Nicholas4 StarsSo even though I have read this series completely out of order I have totally enjoyed every story and this one was no different. Although I do wish I had read them all in order I do have that on my to do list for the future. This as I've mentioned in earlier reviews is not a chosen genre of mine but I can't deny the writing in this story, it flowed so perfectly and kept my attention throughout the majority of the book.I loved the character portrayal in this story from Orlagh dealing with real teenage behaviors and Maelan struggling with trying to save her from herself and also trying to follow through on an obligation. The story progressed and had me on the edge of my seat through most of it. It had many different aspects filled with danger and suspense.I love Ireland and want to visit someday, and even though this was set in the past the descriptions of it just strengthened these hopes I have of seeing it someday. If you love reading fantasies set back in history you will absolutely love these books.
