A magical gift from the fae. A disturbing prophecy. An impending war. When a soothsayer faces her final days, can she find her lone heir before she’s gone forever?
Ireland, 1177. In an ancient realm where fate and enchantment intertwine, a magical gift bestowed by the fae holds the key to a seer's legacy. As Orlagh, a revered soothsayer, nears the end of her days, her prophecies of imminent war are dismissed by those deaf to the echoes of destiny. Left with nothing but an innocent young apprentice in a world plagued by ignorance, Orlagh yearns to find her lone heir and pass on the family legacy. Driven by the fear of her own mortality, she abandons her shortsighted chief and embarks on a perilous quest to locate her descendant before her powers fade away with her final breath.
Unyielding in the face of invading Normans, treacherous deceit, and the fickleness of her own predictions, Orlagh is determined to place her enchanted brooch in the hands of her kin. Yet, when she discovers her chosen successor to be unworthy of the burden, she turns to the mystical fae, braving the treacherous tasks they set before her with resolute determination.
Will Orlagh's unwavering devotion endure the looming shadows of the brutal conflict on the horizon?

from 890 reviewsI really enjoyed this intro to the Skye O'Shea Series. I found Skye interesting and relatable having started over myself after divorce without an inheritance to whisk me away. I'm excitedto see what hernew beginning brings.

Delightful story!

I really enjoyed this first in the Skye O’Shea series. I liked that the storyline was different and lots of Irish lore. I look forward to the next book in the series.

I ventured Into a new realm of Irish historical fiction, and was not disappointed. Book 1 in a series of 5 will keep me cozy for a few days. Looking forward to seeing what else the author has in store for me.

What an engaging and entertaining book! Plenty of twists and turns and wonderfully crafted red herrings! You never know whether your instinct as to who the killer could be is right or not, and juuuust when you think you’ve got it, there ar little seeds of doubt. LOVE IT. Great characters, thrilling and exciting series of events. Highly recommend if you like murder mysteries, Ireland, and more than a wee bit it the woogety woo!

This one really gets into the rituals of the fae, history of her Gran's life and who she was. People arrive that cause a whole of trouble and a death.

A fun read. I like the Ireland location and the references to old Irish folk lore. Characters interesting, more fleshed out than in many books. I'm moving on to the next one.

Not what I expected. The book is fresh with mystery and Irish folk lore. One I started reading it. I didn't want to stop until the end.

I received this book by the author with no compensation or conditions to write a review. I found this storyline to be quite interesting & plan to read more books in this series. I enjoy the paranormal genre & this prequel checked the boxes for me. If you enjoy this genre, I suggest you give it a try.

Read the prequel a few days ago and was hooked. Troubles between exes lead Skye into a world in Ireland she doesn't yet understand. Leaving problems behind in the states, she sets off for Ireland and an unexpected inheritance from her grandmother.Problems arise as son as Skye sets foot in Irish soil. Mysterious death, suspicions about Skye's family and unexpected behavior from the people.Add to that mystical happenings, noises in the night, A talking cat, and many other beings from Irish folklore make for an entertaining read. Ready for the next.

Excellent book. The characters where outstanding! Keep you guessing to the end.can't wait to continue the story! Gram is my favorite character.

I am enjoying the Irish story setting. Hope the series continues past book three.

This is a nice read! Interesting and imagination capturing. Great to read a fantasy that's not full of angst but mature life issues.

Really good read. Not too predictable, has enough twists to maintain interest. The kind of.escape.you want tomread.straight thru, cover to cover

I am half Irish and this series is a good adventure for me as I learn about Ireland history and folk lore.
As seer to Chief Ruaidrí mac Con Ulad Mac Dunn Sléibhe, Orlagh uses the visions she receives from the power of a family heirloom to give him guidance. He is also her cousin so her loyalty is strong but she feels her age and infirmity and the Bishops seem to be directing his path more and more often. When her young fosterling, a girl named Clodagh, disappears Orlagh sets out to find her. The journey is filled with magic, danger, and fae as Orlagh seeks to rescue and protect Clodagh. The only way may mean a dangerous bargain. Orlagh must also find a worthy heir to whom she can bequeath the brooch she inherited and the powers it bestows. She has few close relatives left and the most obvious choice may not be a good one. There are battles, love scenes, and plenty of paranormal encounters and magic. The writing is vividly descriptive and pulls you into the story. I received an advance copy but my review is honest and voluntary.
Wonderful story with fun and entertaining concepts. A refreshing tale of an old woman finding her long, lost heir. Definitely worth the read.
By now, it easy to expect who will inherit the brooch. But fates keep throwing bad luck into the mix.
Misfortune of Vision (Druid’s Brooch Book 4) by Christy Nicholas4 StarsI don't think I have ever read a series with this many books so out of order...Luckily it's ok and although they are all intertwined reading them as I have still works somehow.I am not a historical fantasy fan but I am absolutely a fan of this author, it's the way she tells the stories and this one was no different, somehow she takes a genre I have no interest in and keeps me interested and I can only attribute that to this author's amazing storytelling.I've said it before and will say it again, I've always wanted to visit Ireland but this author has managed to move that dream up my bucket list in the way she transports me there in her writing. The magic and fantasy in this story almost made me believe and that's not easy because as I've mentioned I am not normally a fan. I loved how real Orlagh felt in this book. Not the typical star of a story and I truly appreciated that. Will definitely be looking out for more in this series and also anything else this author comes up with.Awesome Story!
