She’s got perfect posture, a nasty temper, and centuries of know-how. Will trying to fix the fourth dimension leave her trapped in a harsh new reality?
Ireland, 1100’s. Wilda Firestone doesn’t put up with incompetence. Awaiting extraction back to her regularly scheduled life in modern Toronto, the feisty sixty-year-old spends the days hanging out with druids and learning local lore. But when she and her two companions finally make contact with her boss, she realizes that thwarting the terrorists who are corrupting history has left their portal home out of order.
Tasked with sabotaging the enemy without modern backup, Wilda swears up a blue streak when her first few plans fall through. And the resourceful woman wonders if she’s overlooked a valuable source of talent for too long when her untried partners start offering up unique ideas.
Can she lead them through a deadly showdown and get everyone safely back to the future?
Veiled in Ancient Shadows is the wonderfully sassy fourth book in the Toronto Time Agents science fiction series. If you like mature heroines, vivid descriptions, and captivating snippets of history, then you’ll love C.N. Jackson’s dangerous delve into the past.

from 890 reviewsI really enjoyed this intro to the Skye O'Shea Series. I found Skye interesting and relatable having started over myself after divorce without an inheritance to whisk me away. I'm excitedto see what hernew beginning brings.

Delightful story!

I really enjoyed this first in the Skye O’Shea series. I liked that the storyline was different and lots of Irish lore. I look forward to the next book in the series.

I ventured Into a new realm of Irish historical fiction, and was not disappointed. Book 1 in a series of 5 will keep me cozy for a few days. Looking forward to seeing what else the author has in store for me.

What an engaging and entertaining book! Plenty of twists and turns and wonderfully crafted red herrings! You never know whether your instinct as to who the killer could be is right or not, and juuuust when you think you’ve got it, there ar little seeds of doubt. LOVE IT. Great characters, thrilling and exciting series of events. Highly recommend if you like murder mysteries, Ireland, and more than a wee bit it the woogety woo!

This one really gets into the rituals of the fae, history of her Gran's life and who she was. People arrive that cause a whole of trouble and a death.

A fun read. I like the Ireland location and the references to old Irish folk lore. Characters interesting, more fleshed out than in many books. I'm moving on to the next one.

Not what I expected. The book is fresh with mystery and Irish folk lore. One I started reading it. I didn't want to stop until the end.

I received this book by the author with no compensation or conditions to write a review. I found this storyline to be quite interesting & plan to read more books in this series. I enjoy the paranormal genre & this prequel checked the boxes for me. If you enjoy this genre, I suggest you give it a try.

Read the prequel a few days ago and was hooked. Troubles between exes lead Skye into a world in Ireland she doesn't yet understand. Leaving problems behind in the states, she sets off for Ireland and an unexpected inheritance from her grandmother.Problems arise as son as Skye sets foot in Irish soil. Mysterious death, suspicions about Skye's family and unexpected behavior from the people.Add to that mystical happenings, noises in the night, A talking cat, and many other beings from Irish folklore make for an entertaining read. Ready for the next.

Excellent book. The characters where outstanding! Keep you guessing to the end.can't wait to continue the story! Gram is my favorite character.

I am enjoying the Irish story setting. Hope the series continues past book three.

This is a nice read! Interesting and imagination capturing. Great to read a fantasy that's not full of angst but mature life issues.

Really good read. Not too predictable, has enough twists to maintain interest. The kind of.escape.you want tomread.straight thru, cover to cover

I love this series! I was introduced to this series with Book 3 and then read book 1 and then book 4 (and am now going to read Book 2). With that said, I would highly recommend that readers read book 3 before reading Book 4. Book 4's actions are immediately after Book 3 and I think it would be best for the reader to know the characters and the story so that the actions within book 4 make a bit more sense. The author is great about giving us a bit of a reminder so we can keep up with the story but I think one would enjoy it more if they had the actual experience of book3.The characters are fantastic, even in their flaws. I love the main character for these flaws because she's very much aware of them and while she doesn't always struggle against them, she feels very much like someone I would like to be friends with. And her teammates are equally full blooded and I came to care for them, very much. This author has built a fascinating world and I'm so glad I get to be a part of it.Bring on Book 5! I'll be done with Book 2 in a minute! :-DI received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Veiled in Ancient Shadows: A Historical Time Travel Adventure (Toronto Time Agents), my thirteenth read from author Christy Nicholas, co-written with author C.N. Jackson (a pen name). I first heard of this author when I received an email from Green Dragon Press and read An Immigrant's Tale: A Druid's Brooch Prequel Short Story 0.5 (Druid's Brooch Series), one thing lead to another and here I am 13 books later. Well-written with well-developed characters, in all a captivating, page-turning, well-written book! “I received a Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more from this author, in fact Looming Sagas: A Historical Time Travel Adventure (Toronto Time Agents) is already on my TBR list and it doesn't release until February 27, 2026. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Even though there is more than enough action to please any action afficionado, this series truly is character driven. This story picks up right where the book 3 of the Time Travel Adventure Series left off with Wilda, Algernon, and Ian. In this book, we pick up a few more characters to either love or hate, as in the case of the monk, Odhan. I really enjoyed being there as Wilda was forced to live with the decisions that she made and the losses incurred as a result. I highly recommend this to all lovers of time travel, more “mature” female heroines, and to all those with an interest in ancient Ireland.
I’m completely captivated by this series. The time travel reeled me in, but the characters and story keep me craving more. Wilda, the main character, feels like your surliest best friend. She demands the best of herself and everyone around her. She’s intelligent and fearless, but starting to feel her age at 60 years old. Wilda has been a demanding mentor to her talented group of companions, so by this fourth addition to the series, they are well aware of each other’s strengths. I enjoy how they utilize those strengths to find the trail of a ruthless time terrorist who’s always a few steps ahead. Aside from a captivating story, I appreciate the fascinating bits of history that accompany each story. I am so ready for the next book in the series!
What a fun follow up! We learn more about the past, we get to see musings on ethics neatly integrated into the plot, some fun tech and how that get's reconciled with the 'magic' of the time (which is the real magic??)Definitely recommend reading the first one first, but you are still going to enjoy this.Full disclosure - I got an ARC because I couldn't wait to read this :-)
